I know this car buff, very handsome I might add, who has a
theory on dating and meeting women. He shared it with me
several months back and I have mulled this thing over like crazy. He’s right on the money. Say you need or want a car, so you start car
shopping. I mean why buy new, when you
get a lot more bang for your buck with the used one. It makes more sense. Best
case scenario is all the kinks are worked out.
You pull into the used car lot and there it is…………across the
row….. it is shiny, dent free, and your favorite color. A fast talking salesman approaches you with
the keys. The next thing you know you
are driving this car around the block a few times. Not too sure if you like it any more. I mean, it looks good, but the cup holder is
not situated just right. The seats are a
bit stiff or stained here and there. Not
enough leg room. And someone smoked in
it before. The trunk won’t hold your
golf clubs. The price is right, but it
just won’t work.
So, you look around and find another car to try. And right on down the line. You have a budget, so you get what you can
afford. You want the very best for the
money, and hoping to score the perfect find – nice paint job, new tires and
good brakes, smells pretty good, low miles, and a good car fax report. It all checks out perfectly. So you buy it and take it home.
Then the trouble begins.
The next thing you know it is blowing nothing but hot air. That definitely needs fixing. The muffler falls off and the sound grumbling
drives you nuts. You fix that too. Then you realize you need a luggage rack and trailer hitch for
all the baggage, so that costs’ you extra.
You have insurance, but that’s for the serious stuff like accidents. We need to keep the car in good shape, so we
don’t have accidents. If we have to use
our insurance, then things get expensive, like deductibles and rate
increases.
Let's look at people like cars. There is a limited supply to choose from out
there. The lots are few and far between. Many have bald tires or worn out
tie rods. Some have too much Bondo and
broken down seat springs, and many times, the abuse of days gone by have resulted
in a few loose screws. Lots of extra
baggage thrown in the back seat that you didn’t give much thought to ahead of
time. May as well forget about insurance,
the insurance got used up with the last car, and frankly, engines become a bit
complicated the older they get. Plus,
it takes two skilled mechanics to keep it lubed up and safely rolling along. Just like a classic car – you must invest in
it – giving it the time and attention it needs for a complete and worthy
restoration.
Then you take it to the parade.
